10x10 Oil on Canvas. This was the first plein air piece in my Bear Creek series, as part of the Bear Creek Plein Air Painting Event organized by Lisa Faherty with Plein Air Artists of Colorado.
After an exciting encounter with bears (😅), I was able to scope out a new spot and set up for this first session. Whenever I paint en plein air, I try to capture the vivid colors I experience in the moment. Working from photographs is great and helpful, but colors and the *feel* of being out there in the scene tend to get flattened and lost. So, this scene feels the way it felt to spend a few hours painting in the summer in this beautiful state.
